Mixed bag of Lavken yarns

Availability: In stock

Product Description

These sample bags contain a selection of plant-dyed colours from our Lavken range of yarns. Each bag contains approximately 8 colours, great for weaving, stitchwork, or any colourwork that requires small quantities of yarn. Being plant-dyed all of the colours blend beautifully together.

The yarn is certified fair trade and has been produced by Mapuche artisans from Southern Chile. Women spin the yarn on an 'huso' or drop spindle. They then dye the yarn using plants and minerals collected in the locality. This yarn has been spun as "singles". The women are weavers themselves, so the yarn has a high twist and is therefore ideally suited for tapestry weaving.

The wool is sourced locally from traditional smallholder flocks. The most common breeds are Romney Marsh and Suffolk.

This is a truly rustic yarn, so please expect some variations in thickness and colour. We believe that this enhances the unique beauty and texture of this hand-produced item. Please note: Needle sizes are approximate. Please experiment to produce the texture that you require.

Recommended needle size: 3.75mm (closest equivalent gauge = double knitting)

Care instructions:

100% sheep's wool
Handwash, mild soap

By purchasing this yarn you will be supporting the work of a Chilean fair trade organisation working to secure rural livelihoods amongst indigenous groups living in the BíoBîo region of Southern Chile.
