Product Description

Details

These sample bags contain a selection of plant-dyed colours from our Mapu range of yarns. Each bag contains approximately 10 colours, great for stitchwork, stripes or any colourwork that requires small quantities of yarn. Being plant-dyed all of the colours blend beautifully together.

The yarn is certified fair trade and has been produced by Mapuche artisans from Southern Chile. Women spin the yarn on an 'huso' or drop spindle. They then dye the yarn using plants and minerals collected in the locality. This yarn has been spun as "singles".

The women source this wool from Chilean Patagonia, home to large flocks of Merino. It is a very soft feeling yarn which is perfect for knitted garments.

This is a truly rustic yarn, so please expect some variations in thickness and colour. We believe that this enhances the unique beauty and texture of this hand-produced item. Please note: Needle sizes are approximate. Please experiment to produce the texture that you require.

PLEASE NOTE: Unfortunately it is not possible to select all of the colours in a bag, however if you have a particular request (e.g. "greens", "purple", etc), please email us and we will try to accommodate you, but please restrict your request to 3 colours per bag. We are unable to accept returns for colour exchange.

Recommended needle size: 3.75mm (closest equivalent gauge = double knitting)

100% sheep's wool

BOWL NOT INCLUDED!

By purchasing this yarn you will be supporting the work of a Chilean fair trade organisation working to secure rural livelihoods amongst indigenous groups living in the Araucanía region of Southern Chile.
